Shrine of the Storm, Healer Guide
Updated 4 years, 2 months ago for patch 8.3 by Preston. View the change log.
This page covers healer-focused strategies for the Shrine of the Storm dungeon. While it's tailored for healers, other roles may also find the information useful. If you have any suggestions or feedback, you can leave a comment below or tweet @PrestonDvorak.
This guide has been updated and maintained based on my own experiences as well as Dungeon Journal information. I'll continue to update it as-needed.
Bosses
Below are guides for the bosses in Shrine of the Storm, including their abilities, healer notes, and addon settings.
Aqu'sirr
- The tank must stay near the boss at all times to prevent Sea Blast.
- Avoid the path of Surging Rush.
- Players affected by Choking Brine (dispel, magic) will take moderate damage over time.
- When affected by Undertow, avoid being pushed off the platform.
- On Heroic, Grasp of the Depths will root random players and must be killed.
- At 50% health, Erupting Waters splits Aqu'sirr into three Aqualings.
- These use the same abilities as Aqu'sirr, but deal 40% less damage.
- When killed, these deal damage to Aqu'sirr, and when all are killed Aqu'sirr reemerges.
Healing Notes
- Watch for players taking damage from Choking Brine, Undertow, and Grasp of the Depths.
Debuffs to Track
- Major: Choking Brine (dispel, magic), Undertow
- Minor: Grasp of the Depths
Addons
Tidesage Council
During this fight, players will be fighting against the two members of the Tidesage Council.
Galecaller Faye
- At 100% mana, stand in the Swiftness Ward.
- Interrupt Slicing Blast when Blessing of the Tempest isn't active.
- On Heroic, avoid interrupting while Blessing of the Tempest is active.
- If an interrupt happens, avoid the resulting Blowback vortex.
Brother Ironhull
- At 100% mana, stand in the Reinforcing Ward.
- This is particularly important if you have stacks of Slicing Blast from Faye.
- Don't stand in front of the boss to avoid Hindering Cleave.
- On Heroic, the tank should kite the boss while Blessing of Ironsides is active.
Healing Notes
- Use Cooldowns during Blessing of the Tempest when Slicing Blast likely isn't being interrupted.
- Watch for players with high stacks of Slicing Blast; watch the tank during Blessing of Ironsides if they cannot distance themselves from Ironhull.
Debuffs to Track
- Minor: Slicing Blast
Addons
Lord Stormsong
- Interrupt Void Bolt when possible to minimize damage done to the tank.
- During Waken the Void, avoid the Awoken Void orbs.
- Touching an Awoken Void triggers Explosive Void (dispel, magic), dealing light damage and stunning for 4-seconds.
- When affected by Ancient Mindbender, run through the Awoken Void orbs until the effect is broken.
- Alternatively, if no orbs are available the affected player can be damaged to break the effect.
- On Heroic, dispel Mind Rend (magic).
Healing Notes
- Watch for players being hit by Awoken Void.
Debuffs to Track
- Major: Ancient Mindbender, Mind Rend (dispel, magic), Explosive Void (dispel, magic)
Addons
Vol'zith the Whisperer
- Managing stacks of Whispers of Power is an important part of this fight.
- Each stack increases damage and healing done, but also effectively reduces maximum health by 10%.
- This seems to only be cast on the healer and can be used to kill the Sunken Denizens quickly, explained below.
- Avoid Yawning Gates.
- Avoid Tentacle Slam.
- At 100% energy, Vol'zith triggers Grasp of the Sunken City.
- DPS players are sent to a realm to fight Forgotten Denizens.
- Interrupt Consume Essence to prevent the healing.
- Tank and Healer players are sent to a realm to fight Sunken Denizens.
- These should be kited to avoid Leviathon's Wake.
- When both realms are clear of enemies, players are reunited in the normal realm.
- DPS players are sent to a realm to fight Forgotten Denizens.
- On Heroic, Call of the Abyss summons five Manifestation of the Deep that must be killed and prevented from reaching Vol'zith.
- Upon death or reaching Vol'zith, these trigger Abyssal Eruption, dealing moderate damage to the group.
- If these reach Vol'zith, they grant him additional energy.
Healing Notes
- Use Cooldowns on Call of the Abyss.
- Watch for players hit by Tentacle Slam.
Debuffs to Track
- Major: Whispers of Power (dispellable, read above, magic)
- Minor: Tentacle Slam, Yawning Gate
